PhD scholarship at the Department of Economics, University of Copenhagen: Biased Attention and Economic Decision-Making
Application deadline: 18-07-2014Start date: 01-11-2014Department/Location: Økonomisk Institut
The Department of Economics at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a PhD scholarship within the project entitled “Biased Attention and Economic Decision-Making”. The successful candidate will be employed from November 1st, 2014.

The project
Classical economic theory builds on a simple but powerful model of rational behavior: People are assumed to have unlimited cognition and make choices so as to maximize their well-being by attending to all available information. However, since the amount of information we are continuously confronted with is vast and cognitive resources are limited, our attention is restricted, implying that we often neglect important aspects of the environments we act in. The 3 year PhD project will focus on formally integrating the psychological mechanisms guiding our attention into economic theory and to theoretically as well as experimentally analyze how the resulting limited and biased attention can cause deviations from standard economic predictions. The PhD project will be a cross-disciplinary project investigating the consequences of biased attention for consumer choice, firm behavior, financial markets and policy makers.

Qualifications
The PhD candidate should preferably have prior programming skills and a strong interest in experimental research.

The 5+3 PhD study programme
In order to be eligible for a scholarship in the 5+3 PhD study programme the applicant must have completed a two year master’s degree programme or have earned 120 ECTS credits at an equivalent academic level before starting his or her employment. RE: موقعیت‌های خالی در رشته های مدیریت و اقتصاد سال 2014 - saaaaam - 25-07-2014

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a PhD scholarship in Economics and, in particular, within the special topic of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) productivity spillovers.
Briefly about the topic: The literature of FDI productivity spillovers is large and diverse. This literature estimates the productivity effect that the presence of foreign firms has on domestic firms. What this literature has not achieved, yet, is separating the different mechanisms under which the presence of FDI affects domestic firms’ productivity, viz. demonstration effects, labour market mobility effects, and competition effects. Few papers have attempted this, but more needs to be done. During the three years of the Ph.D. the candidate should focus on improving this by identifying the particular mechanisms underlying spillovers. Of course, other issues within the topic of FDI productivity spillovers can also be considered.
For more information contact Prof. Pascalis Raimondos-Møller (prm.eco@cbs.dk). Please note that due to summer holidays responses may not be immediate. This is also the case if you contact the Department Head or PhD coordinator mentioned below.
The three-year PhD program at CBS allows you to conduct research under the supervision of CBS professors, supported by research training courses. PhD students are enrolled in the department’s PhD training program which includes a package of courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics. The program is highly international, and you are expected to participate in international research conferences and to spend time abroad as a visiting PhD student at another university.  It is also required that the applicant shows an interest in actively contributing to the department’s research environment. See the CBS homepage for more information about the PhD program and moreinformation about the PhD program at Department of Economics.
CBS PhD graduates are held in high esteem not only in academia and research institutions but also in governmental institutions and in business where their research qualifications are increasingly demanded. Half of CBS PhD graduates go on to employment outside universities and public research institutions.
Copenhagen Business School has a broad commitment to the excellence, distinctiveness and relevance of its teaching and research programmes. Candidates who wish to join us should demonstrate enthusiasm for working in an organisation of this type (highlighting, for example, relevant business, educational and dissemination activities).
For further information on the general PhD program please contact: Head of Department Peter Møllgaard, tel.: +45 3815 2584, e-mail hpm.eco@cbs.dk or PhD coordinator, Associate Professor Anette Boom, tel.: +45 3815 2593, e-mail ab.eco@cbs.dk
