The school aims to provide excellent students with outstanding and interdisciplinary scientific training in modern microbiology.Research areas covered include:
  • Biogeochemistry
  • Cellular and molecular microbiology
  • Microbial biochemistry
  • Modeling of microbial systems
  • Molecular microbial ecology
  • Plant-microbe interactions
  • Environmental genomics
  • Microbial symbiosis
  • Fungal biodiversity
  • Pathogen evolution
  • Plant-microbe interactions
  • Synthetic biology
  • Systems biology
Students broaden their individual PhD projects by joint seminars, lectures, Experimental & soft skill workshops, international research conferences, and retreats. The program is taught in English. An important goal of these activities is to promote interactions between researchers from different fields of microbiology knowing that the new is often discovered by interdisciplinary approaches. We invite highly qualified and motivated students with a Master’s or Diploma degree in Natural or Life Sciences to apply. PhD degrees - Systemic Neurosciences
PhDGraduate School of Systemic Neurosciences (GSN-LMU)Germany,
What makes the GSN so attractive?
  • Internationally recognized, cutting-edge research opportunities
  • Flexible degree structure
  • Broad exposure to various research fields
  • Support of interdisciplinary research projects
First of all, the scientific environment in which the GSN operates is one of the neuroscience hot-spots worldwide. Besides offering excellent cutting-edge research opportunities, the structure of a GSN degree program has many advantages to a traditional doctorate. Through a combination of seminars and coursework, GSN students keep a broad scope even as their own research becomes more focused.A GSN stipend program supports interdisciplinary PhD research projects, facilitating interchange of ideas across the fields of neuroscience. Additionally the GSN offers special stipends for PhD projects in neurophilosophy, a field which is still being developed both in Germany and internationally. One strength of the GSN doctoral program lies within its flexibility. As such GSN students are always encouaged to make suggestions of special method training workshops or leading scientists they would like to invite for GSN seminars and discussions.Applicants for the GSN PhD program must hold an MSc or equivalent degree in biology, psychology, medicine, physics or related fields. Exceptionally qualified students holding a Bachelor's degree can apply for the PhD and PhD fast-track programs.
