دوستان نظری در مورد Personal History Statement دارن؟

تو اینترنت سرچ می کنی چیزی شبیه SOP میاره ولی به نظر میاد عمومی تر هست و یه جور تاریخچه فعالیت های فرد در کارهایی غیر از رشته ی مورد نظر هست...شما هم همین نظرو دارید؟

در ضمن من موندم چطور میشه هم در SOP و هم در Research Interest علایق خودمونو بیاریم بدون تکرارشون؟
اصلا مگه میشه تو SOP علایقمونو نیاریم؟

تو SOP شما نباید فقط به علایق اشاره کنید. شما باید توضیح بدید چرا به فلان زمینه ها علاقه پیدا کردید و کمی هم در مورد تجربه ها تون تو اون زمینه ها و یا اهداف و برنامه هایی که تو اون زمینه ها دارید صحبت کنید.

اگر هر دو مدرک رو از شما خواسته اند، خب طبیعی است که بخش علایق رو فقط تو Research Interest بیارید و تو SOP نیارید. هر چند من ندیدم هر دو رو با هم بخواهند و معمولاً اگر هم بخواهند تو Research Interests فقط عناوین رو می خواهند نه توضیحاتی که عرض کردم.

در مورد Personal History Statement من هنوز مشکل دارم که باید آکادمیک نوشت یا یه جور نوشته ی معمولی از خودت و سرگذشتتو و یه ربطی به زمینه های نزدیک به اپلایت داشته و اینهاست یا چیز دیگری است؟

در مورد SOP یه تجربه و ایده ای ازش دارم و اینکه باید علایقمون رو باید با دلیل و مرتبط با کارهایی که کردیم نشون بدیم ولی وقتی در یه قسمت دیگر یعنی Research Interests گفته به طور خلاصه علایقتونو توضیح بدید به اجبار هم پوشانی رخ میده...بعد هم به صورت KEYWORDS خواسته که خوب اون تعدادی کلمه هست....فکر نمی کنم راهی باشه که اجتناب بشه کرد از این هم پوشانی..حالا در Personal History Statement هم ممکنه آدم کارهایی رو بنویسه که انجام داده و نزدیک و عین علایقی هست که الان هم داره...
بیشتر نگران هم پوشانی مطالب هستم که در قسمت های Personal History Statement و SOP قید شده دوباره نویسی و تکرار نباشه...

در اینجا که مشکل بر سر گفتن علایق یا توضیح در مورد اون نیست بلکه نو بودنش هست و اینکه مثه شما اولین باریه می شنوم...در واقع مشکل علایق بر دو بخش مجزا research interest و SOP هست که همانطور که بالا گفتم نه میشه در اولی حذف کرد چون که کلا اسمش روش هست و در دومی هم یه وزنه ی مهمی هست و SOP بدون علایق کاملا نقص داره...

در مورد جمله ای که برای بخش Personal History Statement اورده شده در سایت در پست های قبلی بود ولی باز از دوباره میارم:

این نوع متن رو خیلی از دانشگاه ها می خواهند. در واقع بیشتر یک صفحه تعریف از شخصیتتون هست و تجربیاتتون نه خود اهداف. دانشگاه ها چون خودشون رو مجموعه ای از دانشجویان متنوع می دونند (diverse) می خواهند بدونند خود شما به عنوان یک انسان چی به این مجموعه اضافه می کنید. به نظر من بیشتر متنی احساسی هست تا علمی.

پ.ن:در ضمن باید بگم بر اساس جستجویی که کردم اینجور بر میاد که در آمریکا و بسته به هر ایالت این مدرک بیشتر در پلیس هر شهر به صورت فرم هایی هست که توسط فرد تکمیل میشه و سپس تائید میشه و بعدا حالا به هر سازمانی یا بخشی فرستاده میشه ( مثلا یه شرکت)

I think this type of information is not relevant at all. I have a hunch its just a relic of some sort left over from other areas or from undergraduate applications. I am almost completly sure no one will be reading your "diversity statement" unless the adcoms are bored and are looking for a good laugh.

Another thought, why would they be interested in your personal "diversity" if 2/3s of the students in the program are from all over the world!! You can't get much more diverse than that. Who cares if your grandmother is Italian, if they want good pasta at the economics potluck, they can accept a couple of real mediteraneans, imported direct! Same goes for mexican food, indian, etc.

Now I can imagine why the "great hardship" category could be usefull if you think the X's (gre, grades, etc) adcoms look at are determined by some funcion of your IQ,motivation,talent AND oportunities. If your have the same X's as someone else but not the same oportunities, that might mean your a lot smarter/motivated...?
However, since you can bullshit al you want, I suspect the signal won't be very informative.

I was reading the sample that someone linked. Yeah it .... but I'm willing to play their game. That was until I read this:

You've got to be f'ing kidding me. What kind of self-aggrandizing crap is this? She just said she's a female student of Mexican descent. If she's an American citizen and this was written in the last 20 years, then it's an insult to people that actually struggle in male-dominated cultures.

By making your life into a story and inding the unifying themes, you make it easier for the admissions committee to see you as a potentially valuable member of their community.


Skills and Talents

Similarly, how has your background affected the skills and talents you have naturally and those that you have
chosen to develop? What extracurricular activities did you pursue in college and how did those work together with your academic pursuits to create the person that you are today? Make sure to put these skills and talents within the
context of the larger narrative; it's not important that you're a champion ping-pong player unless you can make the argument that this has been meaningful to your academic or personal background.


Interests and Program-Specific Information

o Make sure to put your personal narrative in the context of the school's programs. After all, the admissions
committee has to be convinced that this program makes sense for you personally, as well as for the academic community at their school. Discuss the elements of the program that contribute to areas of knowledge you have already
developed; if there is an aspect of the program that addresses something you haven't yet studied in detail, emphasize why you are interested in pursuing it based on your past interests and current skills.


Future

Finally, finish your personal history statement with information about where you'd like to be in the future and how you see the program contributing to your professional goals. Don't be too vague; you need to make the case that this particular program can help you get to where you want to be. Conversely, don't be too specific; if you want to be in a tenure-track position at Harvard University in a particular department within the next five years, the committee might doubt your understanding of how
the hiring process works. Try to strike a balance, again putting your future goals in the context of your past achievements.
