نظرخواهی در مورد ایمیل دريافتی از استادان

سلام

من یک میل از یک استاد از استرالیا دریافت کردم، بعد از یکسری توضیحات و اینا....نوشته:"
"It is expected that you write a proposal including: Your Name, Potential Supervisor's Name (i.e. my name), A Tentative Title of Your Proposed Project, Your Brief Track Record, Introduction (Importance of the Topic), Background (A Brief Literature Review), Objectives of your Project, Research Methodologies, Required Resources, Research Plan, Outcomes of the Research, and Key References. The proposal is usually around 3 to 4 pages."

الان مگه موضوع پروپوزال رو خود استادا تعیین نمیکنن؟ من باید بگم چه موضوعی باید کاربشه؟!

ازش بخوام خودش یه موضوع بهم بده؟ بد نباشه؟!

یه سوال دیگه

یه استادی هم چند هفته پیش بهم گفت ریز نمرات بفرست برام، منم البته با یه هفته تاخیر! فرستادم. بعد دیگه رفت تو کما....نمیدونم واسه تعطیلات بود، خوشش نیومد، یادش رفت؟ نرسید دستش؟!
کلا چطوری پیگیری کنم؟

باهاشون در مورد موضوع صحبت کنید. موضوع مدنظر خودتون رو هم پیشنهاد کنید ولی یادتون نره که حتما موضوعاتی رو که خودشون کار می کنن رو بررسی کنید و بعد پیشنهاد کنید چون اگر موضوع پرت پیشنهاد کنید عملا فرصت رو از دست میدین. در مورد سوال دومتون هم کلا سعی کنید بسرعت به ایمیل ها جواب بدین. چون تاخیر شما نهایتا به ضرر شما میتونه تموم شه نه ایشون. چون ممکنه اون زمان چیزی رو در ذهن داشته باشن که بعدا از یادشون بره. ضمنا امکانش هست که بخاطر تعطیلات باشه. خیلی ها دو سه هفته اول ژانویه هم تعطیلات هستن. با یک ایمیل می تونید پیگیری کنید.

استادی به این صورت جواب منو داده و کلا رزومه منو ناقص و کمبود دار در نظر گرفته ، در قسمتی که بولد کردم اینو گفته می خواستم بپرسم دوستان تجربه مشابهی راجع به اساتید اینچنینی داشتن؟ در چنین حالتی من نمی دونم باید چی کار کنم چون همه چیزو نوشته بودم  مقاله، معدل، و... و چیز جدیدی برای اضافه کردن و تقویت بیشتر cv ندارم ممنون میشم دوستانی که تجربه مشابه داشتن بگن در این جور موارد چی کار کردن؟ و آیا رزومشونو تقویت کردن و به چه صورت؟ آیا ممکنه این استاد خیلی سخت گیر بوده باشه؟ (در ضمن من این ایمیلو به دانشگاه کالیفرنیای جنوبی زده بودم ،) چون من الان دیگه جرات نمی کنم برای استاد دیگه ای ایمیل بزنم   

thanks for your interest. We admit to the PhD program in general not to any particular faculty and this year I'm not involve the admission process.

That said you will have to decide whether to apply to the behavioral or quantitative track. Sounds like you would be interested in the behavioral track. 

From past experience students  admitted to the program have some research experience in the area of behavioral research. While your past  course  work seems relevant just from glancing  at your CV that seems to be  something that is lacking and that would reduce your likelihood of admission. That's probably true  for other behavioral programs as well, prior research experience tends to be a criteria people look at. 

That said for the quantitative track prior coursework is a much more important criteria and if you're interested in that track you should check with other colleagues about your prospect of applying.

من در این ضمینه بی‌تجربه هستم، فقط متن ایمیل را ترجمه می‌کنم.

ایشان اعلام کرده‌اند که در پروسه پذیرش امسال حضور ندارند.
سپس اعلام کردند که بین دو موضوع موجود به نظر می‌رسد که شما به behavioral track علاقه‌مند باشید.

در ادامه هم گفته‌اند که بنا به تجربه دانشجوهای گذشته که در فیلد اعلام شده تجربه داشته‌اند، با نگاه کوتاهی که به رزومه ی شما داشته‌اند، به نظر می‌رسد که تجربه‌های شما مرتبط باشد اما کمبود این تجربه (منظور ارتباط کار گذشته شما به فیلدی که در حال حاضر قصد اپلای برای آن را دارید) احساس می‌شود.

در نهایت هم اعلام شده که تجربیات مرتبط گذشته بسیار مهم هستش.

اصلا گفته نشده که رزومه شما ناقص هستش، فقط "نامرتبط" یا "کم تجربه" بودن شما در زمینه‌ای که قصد اپلای برای آن را دارید عنوان شده.

به راحتی می‌توانید در فیلد دیگری اقدام کنید.
در اپلای برای دکترا مهم‌ترین اصل همیشه ارتباط پروژه ارشد با فیلدی است که در دکترا قصد اپلای دارید.

پی نوشت: البته اگر مسر هستید در همین فیلد کار کنید به توصیه ایشان عمل کنید

در این جور مواقع با مقاله مرتبط یا internship یا چنین مواردی میشه شانس رو بالاتر برد...

این استاد احتمالا خودش عضو admission committee هست یا حداقل بوده و داره غیر مستقیم بهتون هشدار میده که رزومتون ممکن هست با سیاست های پذیرشی کمیته خیلی شانس نداشته باشه... این جواب منفی می تونه خیلی عمیق تر از یک جواب منفی عادی روی تصمیم شما برای apply اثرگذار باشه...

نمی دونم مقصودتون از"field های دیگه" دقیقا چی هست...

منظورم این هست که در مورد "این case"، (اگر حدس من در مورد نقش فعلی یا سابقش در کمیته پذیرش درست باشه) نظری که این استاد داده موید این هست که شاید عملا دید کمیته پذیرش هم مثل دید ایشون در مورد شما "نامناسب" باشه...

طبیعتا اینکه برحسب چه plan ی به شما گفته January باهاش تماس بگیرید موضوعی هست که خودش می دونه... 

اینکه دپارتمان در جریان نیست به این دلیل هست که در بعضی دانشگاه ها (معمولا در اروپا و بعضا در آمریکای شمالی) استاد مستقلا دانشجو جذب می کنه و deadline های پذیرش graduate شناور هستند... اینها همه فرض هست... با استاد تماس بگیرید تا همه چیز روشن بشه...

It's nice to hear from you.  As you might imagine I have quite a lot of requests to join our group from overseas, but it's good to receive a phytoremediation request from somebody like

 you who has been so active at Phytotech meetings. I also notice that you use Prof.... as a referee, and I wonder if you have visited Athens.

 

Yes, I feel sure we could devise an exciting phyto project with your background and interests, and you would be welcome to join us.  I am not sure we are at the point of proposing an exact project topic for you yet, but this would not be difficult and would be interesting.  I have not really worked on salinity/aridity issues in the context of phyto, but this might be an good area to develop that would have a real and worthwhile context in both NZ and Iran.

 

As you my realise, NZ is a good location to consider for a PhD, as we do not charge international fees –they are the same as for local students (currently about NZ$6,500 / US$4,500 per annum). There are some hurdles to cross to make this possible though.  It is difficult for me to secure funding for overseas PhD candidates, apart from through Lincoln University scholarships (http://www.lincoln.ac.nz/Apply/Scholarships/ ). These are very competitive and always go to students with the best grades and good references.  Iranian students have received this type of funding in recent years, but they have been students already studying at Lincoln.  Grant funding available to me usually gives preference to New Zealand applicants, as you will understand. Otherwise I have to rely on students arriving with financial support they have secured from other external bodies or elsewhere. Of course I am happy to support any application for funding you might make. I do jointly supervise an Iranian postgrad, ... (..., ....i@lincolnuni.ac.nz), who you may care to contact for further advice on these matters.

The professor's assertions reveal two main concepts:

- He's pretty satisfied with your research interests and this fact has been led to continuing his next explanations about the admission stuffs

- He'd mentioned some points corresponding to the diversity of potential scholarships, expecting you to think about and determine whether you can be adapted yourself with the situation or not. At least, one might conclude that you would not be funded from the scratch, but must attend there, spend some sort of money and try to apply for the named scholarship or something else.

If you are OK with aforesaid stuffs, you better declare that, and look forward to apply into the target program, officially.
