Helmholtz-Zentrum Potsdam - Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum GFZ · Division of Inorganic and Isotope Geochemistry
For Section 4.2 "Inorganic and Isotope Geochemistry" we invite applications for

2 PhD positions on granite-related ore deposits (in particular Sn, W, and Ta) (m/f)
Job Vacancy No. 36/42/15 D
Section 4.2 "Inorganic and Isotope Geochemistry" of the GFZ searches two doctoral students (enrolled at the University of Potsdam during the contract period) to join the Isotope Geochemistry group (headed by Dr. Rolf L. Romer) on granite related Sn and W mineralization. One project focuses on the role of the protolith chemistry on the distribution of Sn and W between protolith and melt. The other project investigates the role of fluid-rock reaction on metal precipitation in greisen or skarn mineralization.
Your Tasks:
You will work on case studies (on different scales) using mineral and whole rock chemistry and isotope chemistry in combination with petrographical and petrological methods, focusing on processes controlling metal mobilization during partial melting and metal precipitation fluid–rock interaction. The doctoral projects offers advanced training in geochemical and isotope geochemical analysis with state-of-the-art laboratory techniques, including La-ICP-MS, TIMS, and MC-ICP-MS.
Closing dates for applications is 20th May 2015. Please combine your application documents into a single PDF file with a size of up to 3 megabytes.
We will retain your application documents for at least three months, even if the application is not successful. They will not be returned.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates should have an interest in ore formation and geochemistry. They should have some experience with analytical work in geochemistry and igneous and/or metamorphic petrology. Applicants should hold a MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline of geoscience.
Starting date: as soon as possible
Fixed term: 2+1 years
Working hours: part-time 75%, currently 29.25 h/week
Salary: EG 13 TVöD-Bund (Ost)
You can expect a very diverse and challenging job in an international work environment that is characterized by exciting research projects.
